Our goal is to give readers practical, accurate guidance while being candid about interpretation, linguistic variation, and the limits of automated counting.
Scope
We publish only material directly related to haiku, syllables, short-form poetry, and classroom practice. We do not create unrelated articles merely to capture search traffic.
Originality and review
Examples and explanations on this site are prepared for Haiku Checker rather than copied from existing articles. Factual claims about Japanese terminology and English adaptation are checked against established poetry and haiku references. We separate broadly accepted definitions from matters of artistic preference.
How the checker works
The counter uses a rule-based English estimate plus a curated exception list. It is intentionally transparent: every word count is visible and editable. We avoid accuracy guarantees because pronunciation varies by region, performance, and context.
Corrections and updates
We revise pages when terminology, examples, or explanations can be made more accurate. Material changes receive a new reviewed date. Small spelling and layout corrections may be made without changing that date.
Commercial independence
Advertising may support the site's operating costs in the future. Ads do not determine our examples, recommendations, or editorial conclusions, and sponsored material will be clearly labeled.
